LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt on Thursday praised President Donald Trump’s announcement of The Great Healthcare Plan to lower drug prices, reduce insurance premiums, hold big insurance companies accountable and maximize price transparency:
“President Trump is once again taking action to bring down health care costs for American families, aligning perfectly with my commitment to bring down costs for all Michiganders,” said Nesbitt, R-Porter Township. “The Great Healthcare Plan builds on his historic achievements, including executive orders that secured deals to cut drug prices and enforce transparency. This will ensure fair drug pricing, redirect subsidies to consumers, eliminate kickbacks and empower patients with clear information. I urge Congress to pass this legislation swiftly to provide relief for the hardworking people of Michigan and all Americans.”
The plan would codify the Trump administration’s most-favored-nation drug pricing discounts, expand over-the-counter options, redirect billions in subsidies directly to eligible Americans, and fund cost-sharing reductions that would save taxpayers $36 billion and cut Obamacare premiums by over 10%, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
It would also introduce a “Plain English” insurance standard requiring insurers to publish clear comparisons, profits, claim denials and wait times. It also mandates price posting for Medicare and Medicaid providers, enforcing Trump’s first-term rules that were neglected under the Biden administration.
Building on Trump’s May 2025 executive order securing 16 drug pricing deals, recent transparency enforcement, and the Working Families Tax Cuts that expanded health savings accounts and rural health care access, the plan will deliver more affordable, high-quality care.
“President Trump’s leadership is making health care affordable again,” Nesbitt said. “We must prioritize people over insurance companies and special interests. We know that putting more money back into families’ pockets will help us all make it in Michigan. Congress must act now.”
